I recently picked up the TP-Link TL-ER605 (TL-R605) SafeStream Gigabit Multi-WAN VPN Router for my small business network, and while I had high hopes based on TP-Link’s reputation, I found myself with mixed feelings. On the one hand, the setup process was surprisingly straightforward, even for someone who’s not exactly tech-savvy. The centralised cloud feature and compatibility with the Omada controller are nice touches that give you a lot of control over your network.
However, I wasn’t completely sold on its performance. While it handled my PPPoE connection well, the speed sometimes seemed to dip unexpectedly, especially during peak usage times. The WAN/LAN ports are changeable, which adds versatility, but I did wish for more than just one static WAN port. I mean, why not a couple more options to match the multi-WAN claims?
That said, when it was running smoothly, it did give me peace of mind with its built-in VPN capabilities, which I appreciate for keeping my sensitive business data secure. Overall, I think the TL-ER605 has potential, but it might not be the perfect fit for everyone—especially if you’re looking for something rock-solid on speed all the time. Definitely worth considering if you’re already a TP-Link fan and just need some reliable features, but don’t go in expecting perfection.
